Hart, West Ranch Baseball Teams Start Scott Boras Tournament Today
The Hart and West Ranch baseball teams begin play in the Scott Boras Tournament today.
Both squads are in the 16-team South Regional in the single-elimination tournament.
Hart faces Mater Dei tonight in the first round of the tournament. Mater Dei is 10-1 and coming off a championship run in the USA Baseball National Invitational.
West Ranch takes on Bishop Amat in the first round of the Boras Tournament. The Wildcats have a four-game winning streak and are averaging 7.2 runs per game in those four games.
The Valencia Elite girls beach volleyball team is unbeaten after a pair of victories over Westlake and Pacifica at Dockweiler Beach. The Valencia Elite teams swept their matches at Dockweiler.
The Valencia Pipeline team won its first match of the season over Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.
In college track and field, Matthew Crichton set a school record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 20.19 seconds at the Stanford Invitational.
Teammate David Eller also competed in the steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational and finished in 9 minutes, 32.99 seconds.
Jason Logan was 12th in his heat in the high jump. He cleared 6 feet, 4 inches in his final attempt.
The Dodgers shut out the San Francisco Giants, 4-0, on opening day at Dodger Stadium. Clayton Kershaw pitched a four-hitter, struck out seven and hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to break up a scoreless tie.
The Dodgers scored four runs in the eighth inning. Carl Crawford doubled and scored in the inning.
The Dodgers and Giants are back at in again tonight. Hyun-Jin Ryu will make his Dodger debut on the mound against Madison Bumgarner for the Giants.
In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Indiana Pacers, 109-106. The Clippers have lost three in a row and four of their past five games.
In the NHL, the Kings are in Phoenix for a game against the Coyotes tonight. The Kings are coming off a 3-2 win over the Dallas Stars.
The Kings will have a new look on the blue line after trading for defenseman Robyn Regehr from the Buffalo Sabres for a couple of draft picks. Regehr joins the Kings just before the NHL trade deadline, Wednesday at noon Pacific time.
