Hart Football Team Goes 2-0-1 In 7-on-7 Passing Tournament

The Hart football team went 2-0-1 in a 7-on-7 passing tournament that featured Valencia, West Ranch and Alemany. It also pitted brothers Mike and Dean Herrington, coaches of the Hart and Alemany teams, against each other.

Hart beat Alemany, 18-12, as both teams decided to play 11-on-11 man football. The Indians also beat West Ranch and played Valencia to a 36-36 tie.

Valencia was 1-1-1 in the passing tournament with a 36-24 win over West Ranch and a 36-30 loss to Alemany.

West Ranch went 0-2-1 with a 30-30 tie against Alemany.

Alemany ended with a 1-0-2 record with a win over Valencia.

West Ranch’s Carly Sherwood-Souza was selected as an All American by the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association and Speedo.

She finished in 12th place in 1-meter diving at the Southern Section Division 1 finals. Sherwood-Souza was one of nine freshmen selected to the All American team.

In the NHL playoffs, the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins, 4-3, in triple overtime to win Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals.

Andrew Shaw scored the game-winner in the third overtime. Corey Crawford made 50 saves for the Blackhawks.

Game 2 is Saturday in Chicago.

In baseball, the Dodgers lost to the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks, 8-6, in extra innings. The Diamondbacks scored four runs in the 12th inning to break a 4-4 tie.

But the Dodgers rallied in the bottom of the 12th. Ramon Hernandez hit a solo home run and the Dodgers added another run on an RBI groundout that scored Yasiel Puig.

Puig didn’t start, but came in as a defensive replacement in right field late in the game. He had one hit and raised his batting average to .486.

The Dodgers are off today and begin a weekend series against the Pirates in Pittsburgh on Friday night.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
