Hart Football Begins New Era In CIF Playoffs

The Hart football team ended a 10-year CIF championship drought by winning the Southern Section Northern Division title last week.

The Indians can start a new CIF championship tradition Saturday night at College of the Canyons.

Hart is playing Chaminade in the CIF South Division II bowl game at COC. The Indians are making their first appearance in a CIF state bowl game. The last time they won a CIF championship, the state bowl system didn’t exist.

Hart has a chance to play for a CIF South Division II championship and a berth in a state bowl game against a team from Northern California at the StubHub Center in Carson.

The South Division II bowl game, brought to you by Action Family Counseling, will be streamed live on hometownstation.com. Follow all the game-time action on the high school football phone app also available on the hometownstation.com website.

The game is Saturday night. Kickoff is at 7:30.

In high school basketball, the Valencia boys beat Westlake, 71-57, and advanced to the semifinals of the Ventura County Classic.

Malik McCowan scored 17 points for Valencia and the Vikings improved to 6-1. They will play Sierra Canyon in the semifinals of the tournament tonight at Moorpark High.

The West Ranch girls basketball team beat Oaks Christian, 62-54, in overtime at the Rio Mesa Gold Coast Tournament. Whitney Branham scored 33 points for the Wildcats.

The Golden Valley girls basketball team beat Monrovia, 60-27, in the Magnolia Park Optimist Club tournament. Caitlyn Zindroski scored 16 points for the Grizzlies. The Golden Valley girls are 6-1.

The Hart girls basketball team lost to Crescenta Valley, 51-41, in the Magnolia Park Optimist Club tournament. Breze Kimble scored 16 points for Hart.

In high school soccer, the Valencia boys tied Alemany, 1-1.

The Valencia girls shut out Westlake, 1-0. Sara Silvestro scored the lone goal for the Vikings. Valencia is 2-0 to start the season.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women, ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, beat Bethesda, 83-49.

In the NBA, the Clippers lost to the Brooklyn Nets, 102-93, and are 3-3 on their current seven-game road trip.

The Clippers take on the Washington Wizards on Saturday to wrap up their tour of the East Coast.
