The West Ranch boys basketball team handed Hart its first loss of the season to start Foothill League play.
The Hart boys returned the favor, beating West Ranch and giving the host Wildcats their first Foothill League loss of the season.
The Indians won the game, 84-65, and are tied for first place with West Ranch in the Foothill League standings. Both teams are 5-1 with four games remaining in league.
The Valencia boys basketball team was pushed to overtime against Saugus, but won and stayed a game behind West Ranch and Hart in second place in the Foothill League standings.
Valencia won, 57-53, after Angel Cardenas hit a last-second 3-pointer for the Vikings to send the game into overtime.
Jaleel Howard scored eight of his 14 points in the overtime period to pace the Vikings.
The Canyon boys beat Golden Valley, 56-43.
On the girls side, Valencia beat Saugus, 48-38, and the Vikings improved to 6-0 in the Foothill League. Jennifer Anumba had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds.
The West Ranch girls beat Hart, 58-48. Whitney Branham scored 16 points, eight in the fourth quarter, for West Ranch.
The Canyon girls beat Golden Valley, 78-28.
In high school soccer, the Valencia girls shut out Saugus, 4-0, and are unbeaten in Foothill League play. The Vikings are 4-0-2 and handed Saugus, ranked No. 6 in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll, its third league loss of the season.
Lindsay Bos and Samantha Simon each scored two goals for Valencia.
The Hart and West Ranch girls tied, 1-1. Samy Richards gave West Ranch a 1-0 lead with a goal off a free kick in the first half. Michaela Rickard tied the score with a goal moments before halftime.
The Canyon girls scored two second-half goals and beat Golden Valley, 2-1.
The West Ranch boys shut out Hart, 1-0. Carlos Porcayo scored the lone goal of the game and the Wildcats moved into first place in the Foothill League standings.
The Golden Valley boys beat Canyon, 3-2.
The Valencia and Saugus boys played to a scoreless draw.
In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, 105-96, and won their second game in a row.
The Clippers beat the Portland Trailblazers, 96-83, and snapped their four-game losing streak.
In the NHL, the Kings are home tonight for a game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Kings won their first game of the season, 4-2, over the Phoenix Coyotes on Saturday night.
