Four Girls Soccer Teams From Foothill League Qualify For CIF Playoffs

Four teams from the Foothill League qualified for the CIF Southern Section girls soccer playoffs.

The Valencia girls soccer team, the champion of the Foothill League, will play Moorpark in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 playoffs on Thursday.

Moorpark is the third-place team from the Marmonte League.

The Hart girls will play San Marcos in the first round of the Division 2 playoffs. Hart is the second-place team from the Foothill League. San Marcos is the second-place team from the Channel League.

The Canyon girls are on the road to open the playoffs against Peninsula, the second-place team from the Bay League.

The Saugus girls earned an at-large berth in the Division 2 playoffs and will play Westlake, the champion of the Marmonte League.

The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team opens the Southern Section Division 7 playoffs at home against Rolling Hills Prep. Santa Clarita Christian won the Omega League championship. Rolling Hills Prep is the second-place team from the Coastal League.

On the boys side, Hart opens against Workman in the wild-card round of the Division 4 playoffs on Wednesday.

The West Ranch boys are home against North Torrance in the first round of the Division 4 playoffs on Friday.

The Valencia boys, the champions of the Foothill League, await the winner of the wild-card game between Malibu and Chino.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons men won the first Western State Conference tournament of the season at Valencia Country Club. The Cougars shot 376 as a team and won the tournament by 11 strokes over Santa Barbara City College.

COC’s Luke Kristo shot the low round of the day, a 1-under 71.

In college baseball, The Master’s College lost to Menlo College, 8-4.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the Phildelphia 76ers, 107-90.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the St. Louis Blues, 4-1. Jeff Carter scored two goals for the Kings.
