Four Foothill League Football Teams Ranked In Top 10 Of CIF Poll

The Hart football team is No. 1 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll for the sixth week in a row.

Hart won in come-from-behind fashion, 26-14, over Santa Monica to improve to 5-0.

The Valencia football team dropped to No. 5 after losing to Loyola.

The Canyon football team moved up a couple spots to No. 6 after a convincing, 28-0, shutout over Steele Canyon from the San Diego Section.

The West Ranch football team is No. 10 and had a bye last week.

The Trinity Classical Academy is No. 2 in the Southern Section Division 2 8-man football poll.

In high school tennis, the Hart girls are ranked in the top 10 of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 poll. The Indians are No. 4. San Marino is the No. 1 team in Division 2.

In cross country, the Saugus boys have moved up to No. 1 in the Southern Section Division 2 poll.

The Saugus and Canyon girls cross country teams are in the top 10 of the Southern Section Division 2 poll. Saugus is No. 2 and Canyon is No. 6. Simi Valley is the No. 1 team in Division 2.

The West Ranch girls cross country team is ranked No. 10 in the Southern Section Division 1 poll.

It was a busy day in the major league baseball playoffs.

The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Boston Red Sox, 5-4, in Game 3 of the American League Division Series. The Red Sox lead the series 2-1.

The Oakland A’s beat the Detroit Tigers, 6-3, in Game 3 of the other American League Division Series. The A’s lead the series, 2-1.

The St. Louis Cardinals edged the Pittsburgh Pirates, 2-1, in Game 4 of the National League Division Series.  Cardinals starter Michael Wacha took a no-hitter into the eighth inning before giving up a solo home run to Pedro Alvarez.

The series is tied, 2-2.

The Dodgers beat the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, in Game 4 of their National League Division Series. Juan Uribe hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give the Dodgers a one-run lead.

The Dodgers won the series, 3-1, and await the winner of the Cardinals-Pirates series for the National League Championship Series.
