Troy Nolan, who played for the College of the Canyons football team, signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the NFL.
The safety was drafted by the Houston Texans in 2009 and played for the Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears. He had his best season in 2010 when he had 49 tackles and three interceptions for the Texans.

In auto racing, the Barracuda Racing team in the Izod IndyCar Series is testing a new driver Wednesday at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.
Luca Filippi, a driver for Italy, will test for the Barracuda Racing team owned by Valencia’s Bryan Herta. The team wants to evaluate Filippi as it plans to expand to two cars.
Alex Tagliani, the team’s driver for the past two seasons, remains under contract with Barracuda Racing. But Tagliani has not produced the results the team has expected. He has only two top-10 finishes in 13 races this year.
In NASCAR, Canyon High graduate Greg Pursley was fifth in the K&N Pro Series West race at Colorado National Speedway. He is in fourth place in the West Series standings after eight races.
Derek Thorn won the race, his second in a row, and leads the West Series standings.
In baseball, the Dodgers begin a two-game series against the New York Yankees tonight at Dodger Stadium.
Zack Greinke starts for the Dodgers against Andy Pettitte for the Yankees.
