Canyon Meets Valencia In Foothill League Football Showdown

The Canyon and Valencia football teams meet tonight in a crucial Foothill League contest.

Both teams are ranked in the top 10 in the CIF Southern Section Northern Division poll. Both teams are undefeated in the Foothill League at 2-0.

Valencia is ranked No. 4 in the Northern Division. Canyon is ranked No. 5. The game is at Valencia High School.

Listen to the game tonight on AM 1220, KHTS. The pregame show starts at 6:45. Kickoff is at 7.

In other action in the Foothill League, Hart plays Saugus and West Ranch takes on Golden Valley.

Hart is the No. 1 ranked team in the Northern Division and undefeated at 7-0. Saugus is looking for its first win in the Foothill League.

West Ranch is also looking for its first Foothill League win. Golden Valley has never won a Foothill League game.

In cross country, the College of the Canyons men won the Western State Conference finals at Oxnard College.

Rodrigo Ornelas from COC was second in the race in 20 minutes, 40.45 seconds. He was one of three runners from COC in the top 10.

The COC men won their first conference championship since 2007.

The College of the Canyons women were third in the Western State Conference finals.

Dominique Dowell led the COC women with a fifth-place finish.

In auto racing, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West is at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield for the NAPA Auto Parts 150 on Saturday night.

The NASCAR Citgo Late Models and Spec-Mods are also scheduled to race. The green flag drops at 5:30.

In baseball, the St. Louis Cardinals won Game 2 of the World Series, 4-2, over the Boston Red Sox. The series is tied, 1-1.

Game 3 is in St. Louis on Saturday.

In hockey, the Kings beat the visiting Phoenix Coyotes, 7-4. Dwight King had a hat trick scoring three goals. Anze Kopitar scored his first goal of the season and had two assists.

Next up for the Kings are the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
