Canyon Girls Basketball Team Rolls Into Quarterfinals Of CIF Playoffs

The Canyon girls basketball team cruised into the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division 2AA playoffs.

Canyon beat Kaiser, 74-40, in the second round of the playoffs. Alia McCoy scored 28 points and Kali Vittallo scored 20 for Canyon, the No. 6 seed in the Division 2AA playoffs.

The Canyon girls play Lynwood, the No. 3 seed in the playoffs, on Saturday.

The Valencia girls lost to Corona Centennial, 60-41, in the second round of the Division 1AA playoffs.

Kalia Summerlin scored 15 points and had four assists for Valencia.

The Saugus girls lost to Murrieta Valley, 51-35, in the second round of the Division 2A playoffs.

Faye Osburn and Rachel Eaton each scored 10 points for the Centurions.

In high school soccer, the Hart boys lost to Santa Paula, 4-1, in the second round of the Southern Section Division 4 playoffs.

Hart trailed 1-0 at halftime and gave up three goals in the second half. Hart scored in the second half when a Santa Paula player knocked the ball into his own goal.

The Valencia boys lost to Temescal Canyon, 2-1, in the second round of the Division 4 playoffs.

Jesus Fernandez gave Valencia a 1-0 lead in the first half. Temescal Canyon tied the score moments before halftime and scored the game-winner in the second half.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the visiting Boston Celtics, 113-99, on the night the team memorialized owner Jerry Buss.

Dwight Howard led the Lakers with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Five Lakers scored in double figures and the team improved to 26-29.

In the NHL, the Kings beat the Calgary Flames, 3-1, and won its second game in a row. Jeff Carter scored his eighth goal of the season and assisted on Trevor Lewis’ goal in the first period.
