Canyon Football Team Slips Past Pesky Saugus

The Canyon football team narrowly escaped with a 23-20 win over Saugus in a Foothill League game on Friday night.

Saugus missed a 29-yard field goal as time expired. The field goal would have tied the score and sent the game into overtime.

Instead, Canyon won its third game in a row. Canyon quarterback Cade Apsay scored the game-winning touchdown on a keeper in the fourth quarter.

But the Cowboys left enough time on the clock for Saugus to try a field goal at the end of the game. The Centurions missed the kick, wide right.

In other action in the Foothill League, the Hart football team clobbered Golden Valley, 61-13, and won its seventh game in a row.

Hart quarterback Brady White threw for 194 yards and three touchdowns. Defensive end David Russon scored two touchdowns.

The Valencia football team had little trouble trouncing West Ranch, 42-6.

Valencia quarterback Jake Wallace threw for 383 yards and four touchdowns. Malik Townsend caught three of those touchdown passes. He had 10 catches for 162 yards.

The Trinity Classical Academy football team lost a tight one to Joshua Springs, 36-34, in a Heritage League game.

Spencer Klehn scored three touchdowns for Trinity.

The Santa Clarita Christian football team beat Frazier Mountain, 30-22.

Kamron Carroll scored two touchdowns and gained 145 yards on 16 carries for Santa Clarita Christian. His first touchdown put the Cardinals up 23-22. His second TD gave Santa Clarita Christian its final margin of victory.

The College of the Canyons football team beat Ventura College, 44-23. The Cougars have won six games in a row.

In auto racing, Santa Clarita’s Rich DeLong III won the Street Stocks race at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield. It was his fourth win in a row at the track.

Eric Richardson won the NASCAR Citgo Late Models race at the track, his fourth of the season.

In baseball, the World Series is set. The Cardinals advanced after shutting out the Dodgers in Game 6 of the National League Championship Series, 9-0.

The Red Sox moved on after eliminating the Tigers in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series.

Game 1 of the World Series is in Boston on Wednesday night.

In hockey, the Kings take on the Calgary Flames tonight at Staples Center.

The Kings are coming off a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Saturday night.

Listen to the game between the Kings and the Flames on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 7:30.
