Canyon Baseball Team Scores Early, Often Against Saugus

The Canyon baseball team took down another titan of the Foothill League. Canyon handed Saugus its first league loss of the season, 9-4, scoring four runs in the first inning.

Canyon batted around in the first inning. Justin Stark capped the inning with a two-run, two-out single. Vinnie Fitzgerald was 2-for-4 and drove in two runs. Micah Moyle was 1-for-2, walked twice, drove in a run and scored three runs.

Dylan Freyre hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning for Saugus. He was 3-for-4. Joey Mendez was 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored two runs.

The Valencia baseball team beat Hart 14-1 and hit three home runs in the game. Chad Bible hit a two-run homer in the first inning. Anthony Lepre hit a solo shot in the fifth inning. AJ Balta belted a three-run home run later in the inning.

Valencia improved to 3-0 and is alone in first place in the Foothill League standings.

The West Ranch baseball team won its first Foothill League game of the season, 10-1, against Golden Valley.

The Wildcats scored four runs in the seventh inning. JD Krauskopf drove in two runs with a double and had three RBIs in the game.

In high school softball, Valencia rallied in the fifth inning and beat Camarillo, 7-5. The Vikings were down 5-0 before scoring five runs in the fifth inning to take the lead.

Kristina Brackpool capped the rally with a two-run double in the fifth inning for Valencia.

In high school swimming, the Hart boys beat West Ranch, 108-62, in the Foothill League opener at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center. The Hart girls beat West Ranch, 124-46.

The Valencia boys swim team beat Golden Valley, 138-26. The Valencia girls won their meet, 126-29, over Golden Valley.

In spring training, the Dodgers lost to the Kansas City Royals, 7-2. Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly and raised his spring training batting average to .521.

In the NBA, the Clippers beat the visiting Philadelphia 76ers, 101-72. Chris Paul had 19 points and nine assists for the Clippers.

In the NHL, the Kings are home for a game against the Dallas Stars tonight. The Kings have won two games in a row, including 3-2 over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.
