Canyon Baseball Team Ranked No. 10 In CIF Poll

The Canyon baseball team cracked the top 10 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 rankings for the first time this season.

Canyon is tied with Moorpark for the 10th spot in the Division 1 poll. The Cowboys are in first place in the Foothill League with a 4-1 record.

Mater Dei is the top-ranked team in Division 1.

The Saugus and Valencia softball teams meet in the Foothill League opener today at Valencia High School.

Saugus has a seven-game winning streak and swept Alemany in a doubleheader over spring break.

Valencia went 1-4 in the Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim over spring break.

Canyon opens Foothill League play on the road against Golden Valley.

The Canyon girls have won three of their past four games. The Grizzlies have won four of their past five games.

The Hart girls host West Ranch at Newhall Park in the third Foothill League opener of the day. Hart is coming off a 9-2 win over Woodbridge in the Woodbridge tournament.

In college baseball, The Master’s College swept a three-game series against Vanguard over the weekend. The Mustangs have a five-game winning streak after taking both games of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Next up for The Master’s College is Arizona Christian on Friday.

In college track and field, The Master’s College’s Karis Frankian set a school record in the 3,000 meters at the Mangrum Invitational at Cal State San Marcos.

She was second in her heat race in 10 minutes, 0.10 seconds. Her older sister Micayla Frankian won her heat race in the 3,000 meters in a personal best in 11 minutes, 6.59 seconds.

Hannah Kellerman was fourth in her heat in the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 39.33 seconds and qualified for the NAIA national meet. She also won her heat race in the 800 meters in 2 minutes, 20.47 seconds.

On the men’s side, John Gilbertson won his heat race in the 1,500 and Matthew Crichton won his heat race in the 800.

In baseball, the Dodgers are in San Diego for a game against the Padres this afternoon. It will be Josh Beckett for the Dodgers against Clayton Richard for the Padres.

In the NHL, the Kings are in Dallas for a game against the Stars tonight. The Kings are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to the Ducks on Sunday.
