It was four years ago that a tragic saga began for Deputy Randy Hamson. He was working in Santa Clarita on August 16th, 2004 investigating an earlier traffic collision on Sierra Highway. It was dark, and when a vehicle approached the scene without its lights on, Deputy Hamson stepped into the road to direct the driver to activate the lights. At that time, a separate vehicle struck him, causing severe head trauma.
Since then, Deputy Hamson had been in a long term care facility in a coma. On Friday, October 24th 2008, Deputy Hamson died.
A funeral took place at Grace Baptist Church Thursday afternoon, followed by a long processional of family, friends, Sheriff’s deputies, fire personnel, EMTs and other emergency responders.
He was buried at Eternal Valley with full police honors.
