Restaurant Reports: La Toscana
The dim lights flicker in the window of a charming villa in the Italian countryside. The harvest moon shines down on the vineyards, casting shadows of great mystery on the soft soil in which they lay. Inside is the sound of classic Tuscan music, filling the ancient home. There is an eatery not far that replicates this exact feeling, bringing you to antiquated Italy.
La Toscana is the cozy, neighborhood, Italian restaurant that makes everyone feel welcome here in Santa Clarita. The intimate setting is lit with the perfect amount of candles and classic lighting fixtures, creating that vintage feel, La Toscana is known for. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted warmly by the owner, Moses Vahan and his friendly wait staff. He’ll sit you at a comfortable table with a basket of their freshly baked bread, perhaps with a bottle of wine.

This quaint, little treasure is no place to be rushed. It is an elegant, yet casual, bistro that caters to the whims of those who are willing to take the time to properly enjoy it. In fact, the owner is so adamant about this, that he often suggest McDonald’s as a more viable option for the impatient diners. This has happened on more than one occasion, not to drive away business, but to implore that his eatery be treated the way it deserves to be.
La Toscana was originally a pizzeria by a different name, but was purchased by two brothers who converted it into a restaurant. Moses Vahan came as a consultant; he instantly fell in love, liking the place so much that he instantly called the brothers requesting a partnership. The owners agreed under the terms that he run it himself for a full year, assuming he would decline. Moses, however, ran la Toscana for a year as a partner, then bought out the rest of the property.
The food at this Italian kitchen is something straight out of a Tuscan painting, beautiful trays of seemingly endless decadence. Pizza on a thin crust, baked by the head chef, to perfection, crispy chicken, layered in cheeses and a read sauce to die for. The candied walnuts in the salad burst with flavor, creating a long lasting impression. The quinine is the heart of the neighborhood, possibly the best Italian in Santa Clarita.

When savoring each bite of the pristine dish, you are treated to a live performance by local talent. La Toscana offers the musical styling of numerous artists who play on set dates for the diner’s enjoyment. This is only a small fraction of the eating experience, any other night you would hear classic music of a Tuscan antiquity. That, paired with the warm atmosphere, gives you the feeling that you had just gotten of a gondola in Venice, and walked to a cozy home in the countryside, where they serve a recipe passed down through the ages.
La Toscana is a dining experience, not just a quick bite. It offers some of the finest foods in Santa Clarita, with décor that brings you back to old Italy. The owner, Moses Vahan, works hard to ensure his little bistro is the very best and he lives up to that. La Toscana is the hidden treasure of our valley, the perfect place for the perfect meal.
