    A.C. Green Comes to Real Life Church

     

    On Saturday April 6th and Sunday April 7th, former Laker great A.C. Green came to Real Life Church to talk about basketball and his journey with God.  A.C. Green spoke at all 5 services.  Each service started with a band that performed contemporary Christain songs.  Green then shared his personal story through a mock interview between himself and the head pastor, Rusty George.  A.C. Green talked about his relationship with God and about his personal belief in abstinence.  He spoke about how he merged his life with Christianity and professional basketball.  The service closed with a one minute shoot-a-thon between Pastor Rusty and Green, Green won.  Real Life Church is located 23841 Newhall Ranch Road in Valencia.

    Real Life Church "Celebrate Easter"

     

    Real Life Church celebrated the Easter holiday beginning on Friday, March 29th, with Good Friday services and concluded on Sunday, March 31st, with the last of 8 Easter celebrations.  Thousands of worshippers gathered to celebrate Easter.  Real Life Church offered accomodations to the many worshippers who were unable to find seating in the main sanctuary; as many people sat outside and watched the live feed as people who were seated indoors.  Services included a message from the pastor, music from a live band, and a live sand art piece by Joe Castillo that showed the story of Easter.  Outside the church, before and after the services, there was a live giraffe that guests could pet.

    The Santa Clarita Century Ride

     

    On Saturday, March 30th, the Santa Clarita Child and Family Center hosted a century, half-century, quarter century, and family fun bike ride.  During the event there was live entertainment by different solo artists and theater groups.  There were 4 different rides starting at the Valencia Town Center.  All proceeds from the rides went to the Santa Clarita Child and Family Center.  The century ride was 100 miles and the family fun ride was 6 miles.  Local businesses were part of an expo that people could visit before and after their rides.   

    NorthPark Community Church Children's Fun

     

    On Sunday, March 24th, NorthPark Community Church held an Easter event for children.  There was a petting zoo with rabbits, ducks, and a lamb.  A bounce house was also there for the kids after the Sunday church services.  During Sunday School, the kids participated in an Easter egg hunt.  Kids from ages 2 and up were able to participate in the Easter egg hunt.  NorthPark offers Sunday services at 9:00, 10:30, and 11:45 A.M.  They are located at 28310 Kelly Johnson Drive in Valencia.  

    Michael Hoefflin Foundation 5K Run and Walk for Children With Cancer

     

    On Saturday, March 23rd, The Michael Hoefflin Foundation hosted a 5K run and walk.  The event was held at College of the Canyons.  The event was a celebration of the lives of children and their families who have been affected by childhood cancer.  Teams and individuals participated to help raise awareness to support the children and their families who are victims of childhood cancers.  All the money raised from the event goes help to children with cancer and their families.  One in every 330 children in the United States develops cancer by the age of 19.  The Michael Hoefflin Foundation works to build public awareness of childhood cancers in Santa Clarita and surrounding areas.  The Michael Hoefflin Foundation for children's cancer is a public nonprofit that provides financial and emotional support to children and their families in the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas.

    HMNMH Community Health Fair

     

    On Saturday, March 9th, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital and the City of Santa Clarita hosted a free local community health fair at Jo Anne Darcy Library in Canyon Country.  Free health screenings were available for the public including blood pressure, height/weight analysis, body fat analysis, cholesterol test, glucose test, and stroke prevention education.  There were various booths from local health organizations giving out raffle prizes and talking to the public.  There was a special place for kids where they could learn about making healthy food choices.  

    St. Clare Lenten Fish Fry

    On Fridays through March 22nd, St. Clare of Assisi holds a Lenten fish fry.  This year marks their 35th annual fundraiser.  The doors open at 4:30 P.M. and close at 8 P.M.  The dinner costs $8.50 for 2 pieces and $9.50 for 3 pieces.  The dinner consists of 2 or 3 pieces of beer battered alaskan cod, a choice between French fries or rice pilaf, and coleslaw.  Dinners are available for eat in or to-go.  Each week a different organization sponsors a dessert table.  The Knights of Colombus run the bar.  Proceeds are going to Bridge to Home, SCV Food Pantry, San Fernando Valley Counseling Center, and individuals who need assistance.  On one Friday night they will serve over 1,400 dinners, 1/3 of those are to go.  St. Clare of Assisi is located at 19609 Calla Way in Canyon Country.

    Sweet Charity Cake Auction

     

    On Saturday, March 2nd, The SCV Youth Project hosted their 5th annual Sweet Charity Cake Auction.  The auction featured uniquely designed cakes that reflected a business or organization's theme.  Each cake came with prizes and goodies and the guests bid on the cakes, getting both the cake and what came with it.  The Santa Clarita Valley Youth Project provides services to young adults with serious life challenges in the Santa Clarita Valley.  The cakes were being judged on originality, creativity, the cake that raises the most money, and a novice category.  During the event, guests could buy raffle tickets and try to win various prizes.  The event was held at the Tournament Players Club in Stevenson Ranch.

    Mardi Gras Madness

     

    On Saturday, March 2nd, Santa Clarita Track Club hosted its 3rd annual Mardi Gras Madness run.  The run featured 3 events; a 5K, a Mini Madness run, and a 1K.  Funds raised went to benefit SOAR.  SOAR provides a fully supported training experience to youth in need to prepare for the Los Angeles Marathon.  SOAR stands for Students Off And Running.  They help youth at risk in the Santa Clarita Valley build life skills and establish healthy relationships by training for and competing in the Los Angeles Marathon.   The training program lasts for 24 weeks and the participants as a part of their training run 380 miles. People of all ages came to participate in the runs along with some of their dogs.

    No Excuses Transformation Exercise Class

     

    On Tuesday, February 26th, Dr. Polucki held a No Excuses Transformation Exercise Class.  This class is free to all who want to attend it but only 8 people can come at a time.  Participants use bands and move through a variety of unique exercises that target different areas of the body.  In between exercises, Dr. Polucki stresses stretching.  Dr. Polucki is a chiropractor who offers simple, affordable, natural, and effective healthcare.  During the week, Dr. Polucki offers a variety of classes.  Dr. Thomas Polucki, Upper Cervical Chiropractic Inc. is located at 25050 Peachland Ave, Suite 105, in Newhall.
