The Sheriff’s Department has officially kicked off their 2006 Community Toy Drive.
This program collects donated toys from local schools and dispenses them to underprivileged families for the holidays.
“No matter who you are or what situation you’re in, it’s always nice to know that you can support your family” says Deputy Laurie Baylis, one of the organizers of the drive.
The drive presented large, empty boxes at the Santa Clarita Valley Council PTA Association Meeting on October 19th. The boxes are then brought to local schools where students can bring unwrapped toys to donate. When the boxes fill up, the Sheriff’s Department collects the toys, and holds several events where people in need can come and shop free of charge for their family.
In addition, each school will receive vouchers so that they can determine which of their students are in the most need.
In all, over 40 schools will participate. For more information, you can contact your child’s school, or Laurie Baylis by calling the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station at 255-1121.
