All the banners were removed Monday
On Monday, one of the signs thanking Republican congressman Howard "Buck" McKeon for proposing HR5471, the bill that, if passed, would give companies mining options outside the Santa Clarita Valley, was vandalized.
Gail Ortiz, the spokeswoman for the city of Santa Clarita, said that she saw one banner that had been spray painted, but would not discuss what the vandalization said.
"There has been a significant increase in graffiti and vandalism in Santa Clarita lately, and (the spray painting) is possibly just a part of that," Ortiz said.
Recent Democratic dislike of the banners may or may not have had anything to do with the vandalization.
Bruce McFarland, the president of the Democratic Alliance for Action, said that he received a call from a resident near Granary Square about the spray painting, but knew nothing of how, why or where it occurred.
All the banners were removed Monday in accordance with the city's earlier statements.
