What does bowling have to do with successful student transition from high school to career? In the case of the Valley Industrial Association’s Bowl-A-Thon Night Fever this Saturday (July 22), it could have a marked effect on more than 2,000 local teens.
The Bowl-A-Thon starts at 6 p.m. at Valencia Lanes in Newhall and will including bowling, games, prize drawings, a silent auction and music. Proceeds will help sponsor Connecting to Success, a business-style conference for local high school juniors co-sponsored by the Valley Industrial Association and Junior Achievement.
Originally open to juniors at Valencia High School, the conference has seen been opened to some 2,000 11th graders in high schools across the valley. During the day, local business owners and executives present workshops and breakout groups with such topics as business ethics, building a resume, preparing for a job interview, and focusing on the education and skills required for various jobs.
Bowl-A-Thon entry fees are $60 for bowlers and $5 for spectators. Sponsorships are also available, ranging from $500 to $5,000 and including a lane of six bowlers. Participants are encouraged to break out their polyester bellbottoms and platform shoes for the event.
