For years the local Honor Band Concert, featuring the most talented student musicians in Hart District schools, has been a well-kept secret known primarily to professionals in the music industry and parents of the junior high and high school musicians. That experience is now open to the community, thanks to the mentorship of Carl Goldman, owner of local KHTS Radio, who is working with a district committee to produce the second annual Honor Band Gala benefit performance with proceeds helping to support school music programs.
The Honor Band Gala, planned for Friday, March 3, will feature the Hart District High School Honor Band, select musical ensembles from the Junior High Honor Band, and a silent auction. Tickets are $10.
This year’s regular Honor Band concert will be held Saturday, March 4, in Hart Auditorium and features both a junior high and a high school honor band. Musicians are selected by audition from across the district and guest conductors are well-known music professionals. Due to limited auditorium seating, tickets to the regular concert will be available only through local school Music Departments at nominal cost, as they have been in the past. The concert also will be broadcast live over KHTS, AM radio1220, at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 12, and streamed on the Internet at www.hometownstation.com .
Close to 160 of the Santa Clarita Valley’s top young musicians will take part in this year’s annual Honor Band Concert. The Hart District Honor Band program, now in its 25th year, is designed to provide a challenging, exciting concert band experience for the many outstanding musicians in local junior and senior high school bands, according to Randy Gilpin, band director for Rancho Pico Junior High School and district Honor Band coordinator.
“Because of limited seating, the Honor Band Concert has been an outstanding musical event known primarily to parents in past years,” Gilpin said. “This additional performance will give our community a chance to experience the wealth of talent we have in the Hart District while it provides extra income to help support programs that develop that talent.”
Sponsorship and ticket sales information for the Honor Band Gala is available by calling (661) 252-9090. Tickets also may be purchased from the office of KHTS Radio, 27225 Camp Plenty Rd., Suite 8, in Canyon Country. Tickets will be available during regular office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Tickets to the gala also will be available through the Band Department at each Hart District school.
