Santa Clarita dog owners are invited to bring their canine companions to a low-cost vaccination, microchip and licensing clinic at Canine Country Dog Park on Saturday.
The annual clinic is being hosted by the city of Santa Clarita in partnership with Los Angeles County in an effort to keep Santa Clarita dogs “happy and healthy,” according to a city of Santa Clarita news release.

Vaccinations offered at the clinic include the six-in-one vaccine known as DHLPP, which protects against distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza and parvovirus, for $14, the bordetella vaccine for $15 and the rabies vaccine for $10.
Rabies vaccines are required by state law for all dogs four months and older, while the DHLPP and bordetella vaccines are recommended by many veterinarians to protect pets from highly-contagious, sometimes deadly canine diseases, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s website.

Clinic attendees can also license their dog for the first time or renew an existing license, city officials said.
License fees are $20 for dogs with proof of spay or neuter and $60 for unaltered dogs. The fee is reduced to $7.50 per pet for senior owners.
Microchipping will be available for $15. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice, and is able to transmit identification information if a pet is found and taken to a shelter or veterinary clinic, helping to reunite lost pets with their owners, according to the AVMA.
Adoptable dogs from Los Angeles County Animal Control will also be at the clinic, and will be immunized, fixed and microchipped, city officials said.
All dogs must be properly leashed and wear adequate collars to participate in the clinic, and attendees can pay with cash or check. If paying with a check for multiple services, a separate check for each service is required, according to the news release.
The low-cost clinic is scheduled from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Canine Country Dog Park, located at 20840 Centre Pointe Parkway.
