The Santa Clarita family plans to participate in the run for the second time in honor of their son, Cory Tarrant, and will be walking with approximately 50 friends and supporters this year with room for more to participate, Cory’s mother, Kathy, said.
“Our family works hard every day to honor our son and brother, Cory, whom we lost six days after a tragic motocross accident,” Kathy Tarrant said. “We will have a strong team of friends walking with us in honor of Cory... and of course everyone is welcome to participate.”
The Donate Life Run is a non-competitive 5K or 1K run or walk designed to educate and inspire the community about organ and tissue donation.

Proceeds from the run benefit the OneLegacy Foundation, whose mission is to save lives by advancing organ and tissue donation and transplants through research, public education and honoring donors whose legacies live on, according to their website.
OneLegacy is inviting runners and walkers, dialysis patients, transplant recipients, organ donors, donors’ families, health professionals and students to participate in the run, which is being held at California State University, Fullerton during the last days of National Donate Life Month, event officials said.
This is the 12th year the event is being held, and more than 13,000 people are expected to participate, Kathy said.
“As a nation, we need more public awareness, and there is no place better to start than our own community,” she said.
Kathy, who owns C and D Motosports in Canyon Country with her husband, Phil, and their son, Derek, is currently leading fundraising efforts for their team, which they named Cory’s Forever Young team.
“Close to our hearts is OneLegacy, who was the organization who guided us through the organ/tissue donation from Cory,” Kathy said. “Our family is very involved in the fundraising aspect of this event and we have set a very aggressive goal, which we are getting closer to achieving with each day.”
Registration is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on April 26 at Cal State Fullerton’s Intramural Field, located at 800 N. State College Blvd in Fullerton.
