She then went on to win the state competition at Knotts Berry Farm in August and the Western Regional Final in Florence, Ore. in November.
Harper follows in the footsteps of KHTS-sponsored band Poor Man’s Poison , which went on to win “Best New Act in Country Music” and the $100,000 grand prize at the 2012 Texaco Country Showdown.
In a previous interview with Kyle Jellings and Jesse McClure on KHTS’ own “Jesse and the Jellyman Morning Show ,” Harper reflected the experiences that brought her to this point.
She said that her family often sang together and that she grew up listening to the music of Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire.
“As I got older, I broadened out, and I like pretty much any kind of music,” Harper said. “Country music fits my voice the best and it’s really fun to write.”
Harper said that she will be performing two original songs at the showdown, but didn’t reveal which ones.
She said that she appreciated the lessons that the competition has taught her and the support of people back home.
“It’s been so much fun, and I’m just so grateful,” she said. “And the support that you have shown me, too, has just been awesome. I couldn’t ask for a better sponsoring station.”
