The crash happened around 8:25 p.m., at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Newhall Avenue.
A woman, who was not identified by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station officials, was trying to turn on to Railroad Avenue in Newhall, where her vehicle became stuck on the tracks, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.
"The driver wanted to make a right, northbound to turn on to Railroad, although somehow she drove onto the tracks," according to Sheriff's Station reports. "And then once she was on the tracks for about 30 feet, her vehicle became high-centered on the tracks."
There was a California Highway Patrol car nearby, and officers observed the woman drive onto the tracks, escorted her out of the vehicle and then turned on emergency lights.
"The train was traveling approximate 45 miles per hours when the train saw the lights on the CHP car," Dubin said.
The train was able to slow down and made contact with the vehicle traveling about 5 mph, Dubin said.
The AV Line 221 to Lancaster was delayed about an hour Monday night due to the crash, according to Metrolink spokesman Jeff Lustgarten.
No one was injured on the train, and no other lines of service were affected, Lustgarten added.
