Nov. 5 marked the first birthday of the school’s SCVi Cafe, which serves meals made from scratch to more than 300 learners and 30 percent of school staff daily.
The cafeteria serves meals such as clam chowder in bread bowls, Korean beef and jambalaya at only $3 for students and $4 staff. There were also free cupcakes for everyone.
On Tuesday, students were served angus burgers with cheddar cheese, an option that’s usually part of the Cafe’s higher-end menu.
The Cafe, which offers a variety of seating options for students to eat comfortably, looks little like typical public school cafeterias.
“We just want (the learners) to feel comfortable,” said Head Chef Dawn Walker . “We call it the heart of our school.”
