It is an 80% replica with 100% of the names of the victims from the Vietnam War. Local resident Chuck Morris plays a definitive part in bringing the wall to Santa Clarita. Morris helps organize the annual Memorial Day parade with the Friendly Valley Veterans Squad in Friendly Valley. He heard about the wall but inquiries made him realize that it was much too big for Friendly Valley parade purposes. But he thought of three important reasons for the traveling wall to come to Santa Clarita. As Morris says, “The first was for people who have relatives or people who have relatives on the wall and can’t afford to go to Washington, D.C., so they can see the wall,” Morris said. “The second reason is what an amazing thing this will be for our city,” Morris said, noting that the SCV has one of the highest per capita veteran populations in the state. Finally, “It’s also about education, he said, noting that most schools don’t include the Vietnam War in their history lessons.” Many opportunities have arisen with the coming of the wall: kids essay contest for grades 4-6, volunteers for a continuous reading of the wall names, and more.
