Steven Markarian, 19, of Canyon Country, was held to answer for one count of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder, according to an official with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Markarian already pleaded not guilty in May at Los Angeles Superior Court in San Fernando.
Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station detectives arrested Markarian in May in connection with the stabbing, a Sheriff’s Station official said.
Markarian, a suspected gang member, confronted the victim and began an argument Tuesday night, according to Sheriff's Station officials.
The victim was walking home with a friend near the 27300 block of Sara Street in Canyon Country, where he was confronted by the suspect, said Sgt. Dean Currie of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s COBRA team.
The stabbing occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 21. Markarian was found near Jakes Way in Canyon Country around 3 p.m. the following day.
The stabbing was investigated as a gang-related incident, according to Sheriff's Station officials.
“He was walking on his way home when the assault occurred,” Currie said. “We knew he was with one other person.”
The stabbing took place near the River Park Apartments in Canyon Country. The suspect fled the scene before responding deputies arrived at the apartment complex where the assault took place.
The victim was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery to repair his wounds from the stabbing.
The victim did recover, Currie said.
The station’s COBRA Team handles all juvenile and gang-related crimes.
Markarian is being held in lieu of $1,090,000 bail at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in downtown Los Angeles.
