Special Olympics Southern California  seeks to help children and adults with intellectual disabilities build productivity, physical fitness and teamwork through Olympic-type sports training and competition.

Two upcoming fundraisers are scheduled in the Santa Clarita Valley for those local residents who would like to support Special Olympics.
The Valencia Country Club  on Tourney Road is hosting Special Olympics’ 11th annual Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 9, starting at 9 a.m. Check-in for participants starts at 7 a.m.
The tournament will feature several different events. There will be a four person scramble with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Players can win awards for top teams, straightest drive, longest drive and closest to the pin.
Along with a round of golf, there will be many on-course contests and giveaways, a raffle and a silent auction. Lunch and refreshments will be served on course, and the tournament will end with a buffet.

The following month, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department  will host their annual “Fun in the Sun” Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jack Bones Equestrian Center on Tapia Canyon Road in Castaic.
Chili Cards are $5 per person, entitling guests to sample all the chili they can stomach.
There will be more than 25 chili booths with all varieties of spices and ingredients, in addition to a kid's zone, a Home Depot booth for children, arts and crafts, games, live music and a classic car show.
