Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, R-California, is being challenged once again by Lee Rogers, a podiatrist from Simi Valley.
Recently, Rogers filed a statement with an intent to run in a campaign for Congress in 2014.
“We filed the paperwork on first of July,” said Rogers, “We’re kicking off the campaign now, and we’re focused on getting our message out and letting people know what I stand for.“
Rogers ran for Congress against McKeon in 2012, but lost by a 9-point margin.
“I want to reach out to our existing base of supports from last year, and to build that network of force trying to let more people know about us,” Rogers said.
Rogers supports keeping Medicare, boosting the economy, and attacking government corruption.
As for Congressman McKeon, it is still too early to go into great detail about a 2014 campaign, according to Alissa McCurley, a spokeswoman for Congressman McKeon’s office.
“Right now, the congressman is concentrating on the hard work currently facing Congress -- work that he was elected to do not even a year ago,” McCurley said.
At this time, the congressman has no plans to retire, but he has not filed the paperwork to appear on the California ballot.
McKeon has, however, filed the necessary papers with the Federal Election Commission to fund a campaign back in February.
“The issues facing our country today are terribly pressing, and the congressman takes his duty of representing the people of the 25th District very seriously,” McCurley said.
McKeon was first elected to Congress in 1992, which will make him a 20-year-incumbent in the 25th Congressional District. According to his website, McKeon is a champion of the military, reducing the national debt, and restoring fiscal discipline to the federal government.
California's 25th District represents Simi Valley, Porter Ranch, Santa Clarita, and the Antelope Valley.
