While Einstein Academy officials have remained tight-lipped about the location of their new kindergarten to sixth grade school, KHTS has learned Tuesday from city officials that a conditional-use permit application has been filed.

Einstein Academy officials received the OK in May  for a kindergarten through sixth grade school from the Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District's governing board.
Since garnering approval from the AADUSD, Einstein officials have processed 1,338 applications for 650 spots. A lottery was held June 17, which set the first classes. The school is planning to seat 25 students per class in its K-6.
"We're just thrilled by the response," said Jeffrey Shapiro, executive director for the Einstein Academy of the Letters, Arts and Sciences. "We're so happy we're able to meet the needs of so many families in this community."
Citing a need to get through the permit process first, school officials have been reluctant to reveal the location, which parents have been understanding of, Shapiro said.
Einstein officials have been denied permission for a charter school in the Saugus Union School District on four separate occasions, and Einstein officials are asking Los Angeles County Office of Education officials to set aside the district's most recent ruling.
The city official processing the permit confirmed that a conditional-use permit was submitted for city review for 25300 Rye Canyon Road.
"It's for another charter school location," said Mike Marshall, Santa Clarita project manager who's overseeing the permit process.
The location is less than a mile south of the current seventh- to 12th-grade school that Einstein Academy officials operate at 28141 Kelly Johnson Parkway in Valencia.
The junior high and high school site will be adding a 12th grade this year, and will have its first graduating class next June.
The school earned a 913 on its API scores, which is how the state tracks the accountability for academic growth in schools.
"You have two phases you have the entitlement phase and the building permit phase," Marshall said. "The application is not yet complete and we are working with the applicant."
Marshall confirmed that the application was for a charter school location.
"Typically, the conditional use permit does require a public use hearing, (in front of the city's Planning Commission)," Marshall said. "We do not have a date set yet for that point."
