“We are working with the community and we want to make sure everyone's voices are heard,” said Alissa McCurley, spokeswoman for McKeon. “We are out in the community, talking to folks, making sure that everyone's voices are heard and that a comprehensive immigration reform package really includes real workable long-term solutions.”
More than 20 people in the immigration reform group have been trying to gain support from McKeon since Monday.
“This is the final event of this week. We were outside of his office on Monday and a press conference on Tuesday,” Miller said.
McKeon is supportive of creating an immigration reform package that will be a benefit to everyone, McCurley said.
“I think that’s the process that we're in right now. Having a dialogue where those things are dissected and investigated--you don’t want legislation that’s not effective and doesn’t reach the goals that we’re trying to achieve and so that’s where we’re at,” McCurley said.
An intern for the reform coalition, Tara Miller said supporters were asking for McKeon to do the humane thing.
“I want him to pass immigration reform, because I believe it is the humane thing to do,” she said. “There are people in this country who do not have a pathway to citizenship and who are undocumented citizens.”
Public Relations and Outreach Chair for the Antelope Valley Dream Team , Cesar Vega Magallon said, “I hope Mckeon realizes that he is representing all of us. We’re going to do everything we can to get this passed. We need his support. I am undocumented. I am risking my life. We all are risking our lives for this issue.”
