Alex Urbina Talks To SCVi Learners About Their Schools New Style Of Teaching...
On today’s show Alex and Wendy invited “learners” from SCVi Charter School to talk about what SCVi is and does. They are a new school that asked the tough questions and brings a new style of teaching and learning.
“Shouldn’t teaching be challenging because each student and technology changes and as a teacher we should be seeing how we can grow and change ourselves,” Alex said.
We needed to try something different from our public schools, the SCVi Facilitator said. With the new school we do that and our learners excel greatly.
SCVi has a trip coming up to Belize. They will be travelling to two schools to build computer labs and help out in whatever way they can.
We did not create this trip ourselves but we embrace it fully, a learner said. Our first idea was to go to Nicaragua, but it didn't work out but we thought about Belize and now we are going.
“What does being in service mean to you,” Alex said.
For me I have always been open to take with the underdogs and I have always wanted to help people and going international to help out kids that have less than me I get a feeling of selflessness by helping someone’s life, a learner said.
“By changing one person at a time it is a way to change the world,” a learner said. “But first I had to change myself so I can be able to start helping others.”
“That is great to hear,” Alex said.
With this trip, we plan to bring computers and technology to the kids to keep in contact and stay that way for years.
