The Canyon baseball team put the entire Foothill League on notice with a 13-4 win over West Ranch.
Canyon scored six runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-2 lead over the reigning Foothill League champion.
Canyon catcher Justin Stark was 3-for-4 with a double and drove in four runs. Vinnie Fitzgerald walked twice, singled and scored three runs in the Foothill League opener for both teams.
The Valencia baseball team beat Golden Valley, 10-3. Kyle Sanchez was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Vikings.
The Saugus baseball team needed extra innings to beat Hart, 5-4. The Centurions led 1-0 and 2-1 before taking a 5-2 lead in the 10th inning. Hart scored twice in the bottom of the 10th, but Saugus held on to win the game.
In soccer, the Santa Clarita Storm will have its top scorer from a year ago return to the team. Justin Coombes, who scored 15 goals for the Storm in 2012, will be back with the team after signing a one-year extension.
The Santa Clarita Storm plays in the National Premier Soccer League.
In college basketball, The Master’s College women lost to Carroll College, 73-58, in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament in Frankfurt, Ky.
Lena Rivera and Zoe Scott each scored 13 points to lead the Lady Mustangs.
The Master’s College women end their season with a 25-6 overall record.
In the NBA, the Lakers lost to the Atlanta Hawks, 96-92, and might have lost Kobe Bryant to a severe ankle sprain.
He scored 31 points but injured his left ankle in the fourth quarter. X-rays were negative but Bryant will be out indefinitely according to the team.
The Lakers are in Indiana for a game against the Pacers on Friday night.
The Clippers lost to the visiting Memphis Grizzlies, 96-85. Chris Paul scored 24 points and had nine assists.
In the NHL, the Kings are in San Jose for a game against the Sharks tonight. The Kings are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.
