It’s that time again! Participate in the “coolest” event of 2013: The Castaic Lake Polar Plunge on Saturday, Mar. 2.
Hundreds of people will dive into Castaic Lake’s chilly waters to raise funds for local Special Olympics athletes. Castaic Lions Club will provides a pancake breakfast starting at 8:30 a.m. at registration. The Plunge will take place at 10 a.m. sharp.
“Our ocean and lakes have frigid March waters so brave souls can cross this off their bucket list and raise money for Special Olympics at the same time,” said Bill Shumard, President & CEO of Special Olympics Southern California.

The plunge will take place at Castaic Lower Lake. Each Plunger or Chicken will raise a minimum of $50 to participate with additional incentives for funds raised. People are encouraged to sport their favorite costume whether they come alone or plunge with friends.
"The Polar Plunge is a great event for all, and it really shows how great Special Olympics is," said Marisa, a Special Olympics athlete "I enjoy seeing the faces of pride each year. It may be cold, but it's so much fun, especially when you wear a costume."
“The best costumes may be rewarded and crowds of people will cheer on all participants whether they are braving the waters in a Wonder Woman costume or just a swimsuit,” said Shumard.
Companies, school groups, community groups, law enforcement, and supporters of all kinds will walk, run, or “creatively enter” the sub-50-degree waters to benefit Special Olympics Southern California.
“Taking the Plunge is a unique way for individuals, groups, and corporations to support our athletes,” added Shumard.
