Deputies assigned to the unicorporated parts of Los Angeles County arrested a man on gun and drug charges, after a routine traffic stop yielded a stolen firearm, a pipe and a bag of methamphetamines, a sheriff's deputy said Monday.
The stop occurred just after midnight Sunday on Valencia Boulevard west of Interstate 5, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station.

"Any time deputies are able to safely take a gun and drugs off the streets without anyone getting hurt is a positive thing," Dubin said.
After talking to the driver of the vehicle, Mike Castillo, 23, of Van Nuys, the deputies conducted a search of the vehicle.
Deputies report that during the investigation they recovered a loaded firearm concealed under the driver’s seat, metal knuckles, a pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a large knife and a baggy containing methamphetamine.
The firearm was reported stolen out of the El Cajon area in San Diego County.
Castillo was arrested and booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station on charges of possession of a loaded firearm while in possession of narcotics, carrying a concealed loaded stolen firearm, possession of metal knuckles, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and for driving on a suspended license.
Castillo works in the Santa Clarita Valley.
He is being held at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $50,000 bail. He is due in North Valley Superior Court, San Fernando, on Wednesday.
