Series Of Winter Storms Hitting Santa Clarita [1]

Wed, 12/12/2012 - 3:30pm  |  Derek Sedam [2]

A series of storms over the next four days will bring rain, wind and even a little snow to the surrounding Santa Clarita area. And residents can expect to get used the winter weather, according to National Weather Service specialist Stuart Seto.

The series of storms over the next four days will hit Santa Clarita late Wednesday night – the first being the strongest, said Seto.

Local residents can expect three to four hours of steady rain overnight into Thursday morning, with snow levels dropping to 3,500 feet – affecting commuters through the Grapevine and mountain roads north of Santa Clarita.

Rain totals will range in the half inch to three-quarters inch range, with the high temperature hovering just around 60 degrees.

The combination of cold winter weather, wind gusts up to 35 mph and the potential for snow has the NWS releasing winter weather advisories for local communities through 4 p.m. Thursday. The advisories will continue for local mountains throughout the weekend.

The next series of storms will be much lighter and warmer in nature, said Seto. Santa Clarita can expect light, passing rain showers with temperatures in the lower 60s Friday to Sunday.
