The CIF baseball playoffs did not start well for the teams from the Foothill League.
Hart and Valencia both lost in the wild-card round of the CIF Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
Valencia at least had home-field advantage against Corona. But Corona starter Daniel Pena made himself at home against the Vikings in a 3-0 shutout.
Pena pitched a two-hitter and struck out six. Kyle Sanchez and Johnny Ives were the only players from Valencia who got a hit off of Pena.
Valencia starter JD Busfield gave up three runs on four hits in five innings. He struck out five and didn't walk a batter.
Hart lost to Simi Valley, 7-4, in their wild-card game.
At least one team from the Santa Clarita Valley advanced in the CIF baseball playoffs.
Santa Clarita Christian beat Trinity Classical Academy in a lopsided 21-1 game in the wild-card round of the Division 7 playoffs.
In high school softball, Hart lost to Upland, 6-0, in the wild-card round of the Southern Section Division 1 playoffs.
The Santa Clarita Christian softball team shut out Riverside Bethel Christian, 18-0, in the wild-card round of the Division 7 playoffs.
In high school volleyball, Valencia and West Ranch reached the end of their seasons in the semifinals of the Southern Section Division 2 playoffs.
Valencia lost to top-seeded Oak Park in three games. West Ranch, which was making its first appearance in the Division 2 semifinals, lost to third-seeded Corona del Mar in three games.
In high school golf, three players from the Foothill League advanced to the CIF Southern Section individual final after making the cut at the Northern Regional.
Isaac Kim and Brandon Dooley from West Ranch will join Jonathan Chang from Valencia at the Southern Section final at Victoria Country Club in Riverside next week.
Kim made the cut with a 2-over 73 at the La Posas Country Club in Camarillo. Chang shot a 4-over 75. Dooley was 5-over 76. The cut was 6-over 77.
In high school ice hockey, the Saugus and Hart teams won their first-round playoff games in the Ice Station Valencia league and advanced to the semifinals.
Saugus, the top-seeded team in the playoffs, shut out Burbank, 11-0. Austin Ehrlich had seven points for Saugus.
Hart beat West Valley, 7-5, and will play Saugus in the semifinals.
In other games, Bakersfield beat Valencia, 5-3, and the Northerners beat Canyon, 8-3.
In the NBA playoffs, the Clippers lost to the San Antonio Spurs, 108-92, in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals.
In the NHL playoffs, the Kings shut out the Phoenix Coyotes, 4-0, in Game 2 of the Western Conference final and have a 2-0 lead.
Jeff Carter recorded a hat trick for the Kings. Game 3 is at Staples Center on Thursday.
