St. Clare Lenten Fish Fry 2012
(Story and Photographs by Gabie Cardenas)
St. Clare did it again! As part of a long tradition, started 33 years ago, St. Clare Catholic Church in Canyon Country is serving the community a delicious Lenten, non-meat dinner.
Every Friday from February 24th, through March 30th, from 4:30 pm to 8 pm, in preparation for Easter, you can jon in this great event. So every Friday evening, the St. Clare parish hall at 19606 Calla Way in Canyon Country turns into a gathering place filled with good food and good family time for all ages.
Hundreds of dedicated volunteers work to prepare from scratch and serve the fish fry dinner. The organization is amazing, all ages of volunteers work tiredlessly to cook, serve, cleanup and everything in between.
On the menu:
- beer battered Alaskan Cod,
- rice pilaf or french fries,
- cole slaw,
- plus delicious home-made tartar sauce, bread rolls and butter,
- available for purchase: additional drinks (beer, wine, soft drinks) and tempting desserts.
The cost is $8.50 for a two-piece dinner or $9.50 for a three-piece dinner. Take-out available.
The goal of the Fish Fry Lenten Dinner at St. Clare is to raise funds for the Santa Clarita Food Pantry, SCV Winter Shelter, the San Fernando Valley Family Counceling Center and individuals in need.
This event is so popular that lines are forming right at opening time and as the evening unfolds, the lines are crawling through the buildings on the campus at St. Clare, although the wait is minimal and everyone has a smile on their faces. It is one of the events that people are looking forward to during the Easter Lent period.
"Fine food and fellowship found here!!" St. Clare declares on their website.
