Canyon Cowboys running back Max Archuleta has verbally committed to play football at Yale, family members said Sunday. (Archuleta seen here last summer at the historic Yale Bowl in New Haven, Connecticut.)
Archuleta, who ran for 1,131 yards and eight touchdowns this past season for the Cowboys, received an offer last weekend from new Bulldogs coach Tony Reno. Archuleta was on campus two weekends ago for an official visit.
The 5'7" 170 lbs. Archuleta was named 1st Team Running Back for the Foothill League this past season.

Last Tuesday, the Ivy League coach came to Canyon Country to meet with the family in their home.
Reno told the Archuleta family that Max's speed set him apart from the other athletes being recruited to Yale.
Archuleta was part of Canyon's school and league record setting 4x100m relay team (including Kenny Stone, Dominic Penucci), and Darius Rudolph) that made a miraculous run to the California State Track and Field Championships last spring, earning themselves a sixth place medal.
Reno is bringing the spread offense to the Bulldogs next season which utilizes a speedy running back who can catch passes out of the backfield or can be moved into the role of slot receiver to create speed mismatch problems for defenses.
Archuleta also received offers from Johns Hopkins, Amherst and Columbia, where he took an official visit this weekend. (Pictured at right on Canyon High Senior Night with his mother Mimsey Archuleta.)
Last March, Archuleta was one of two Canyon High School students sponsored by the Canyon Country Optimists Club to accompany community leaders on a visit to the state's capitol for the 2011 Sacramento Road Trip, sponsored by Assembly Member Cameron Smyth, KHTS AM 1220, Castaic Lake Water Agency, Facey Medical Group and AT&T.
Archuleta will make the announcement official this Wednesday on National letter of Intent Signing Day.
