If your lawn or yard is not-so-sunny then choosing plants and trees that do well in shade is extremely important.
You can still have color in shade, bright pink and red impatiens love the shade and add a nice contrast to mostly green plants.
Hostas are another great plant to place in a shaded area as well as dianthus, white alssum and viola. You can have plenty of flowers in shade!

If you are looking for shrubs, rhododendrons are the way to go. Dexter’s purple or Taj Mahal rhododendrons make a statement in both color and design.
You can fill in your boarders and planters with lamiastrum—it makes an excellent ground cover.
Make sure to vary plant spacing so that some plants are close together and others have more breathing room. It allows visual resting spots for the eye.
