As of Saturday and continuing through June 30 there will be no library services in the City of Santa Clarita. On July 1, the new city operated libraries will have a grand opening celebration at the Canyon Country and Newhall locations. The Valencia library will open on July 5.
At last Tuesday’s City Council meeting a Santa Clarita resident gave an impassioned speech decrying the lack of services. She suggested the city park book mobiles outside the libraries for families, like hers, who had children that need books for the summer. The woman explained that she wasn’t complaining, but trying to come up with alternatives “off the top of my head.”
The City Council said they would look into the issue, but today City Communications Manager Gail Ortiz said there were no book mobiles available from the county to cover the 10 day gap in services.

LA County Library spokesperson Pamela Broussard said the Stevenson Ranch Express Library is an interim facility until a permanent building can be built to serve the west side of the Santa Clarita Valley. A Special Vision Meeting was held at the Stevenson Ranch Elementary School on June 7th.
Broussard defined the plans as being in the “beginning stages.”
