With a sharp focus on building community, Billy Kornfeld has worked hard for 25 years to create a family at his Santa Clarita–based moving company, Camelot Moving and Storage.
Tired of spending weeks at a time away from his family driving on the road for a large coast-to-coast moving company, Kornfeld started Camelot Movers with his wife, Carolyn, in April 1986.
The Camelot family then consisted of the Kornfeld couple and few employees operating with one small moving van, and selling packing supplies out of a garage.

Twenty-five years later, Camelot has grown to include many more devoted employees, a fleet of large and small moving vans, and more than 18,000 customers. With clients serving and/or living abroad, the Camelot family has literally stretched around the world. Despite this vast growth, the company has successfully maintained its sense of family in its devotion to its clients, employees, and community.
Speaking of Kornfeld, Kathleen Levin, a Camelot client since 1989, said, “Billy has always been very personal. Being one of his customers, I feel like a family member. I feel like he’s got my back.”
Camelot has become a household name among Levin’s family since it has provided moving services to three generations. The company’s reputation for honest and reliable service has served it well. Eighty percent of its business comes from referrals or repeat business.
Santa Clarita real estate agent Sam Heller has used Camelot 15 times over the past 20 years—and has referred the company countless times as well.
“Some people are just good. That’s all there is to it. Billy runs a good, clean company. His workers are kind and respectable,” Heller said. “I have never heard a complaint about him. He goes above and beyond to do the best job.”
Camelot’s 18,000 clients include a few famous performers as well, specifically five white tigers and two jaguars that belonged to famed performers Siegfried and Roy. The request came from a former client and veterinarian. Siegfried and Roy needed transportation of props and the animals from the Mirage Hotel in Las Vegas to a jet waiting in Los Angeles for a special, one-time show in Germany.
“After modifying a trailer just to move the animals, we picked up the priceless cargo in Las Vegas. The entourage included security, trainers, and a veterinarian, and we had an additional truck as a mechanical backup,” Kornfeld explained. “Both legs of the trip went smoothly and the animals were returned safely to their home.”
Every hard-working, loyal crew member at Camelot is considered family. The entire Kornfeld family, as well as some relatives, has worked at the company. However, the vast majority of Camelot’s employees are not related to the Kornfelds.
“It’s a big priority for me to provide a comfortable environment,” Kornfeld said. “About a year ago, a new employee, who had worked at another moving company, joined us. After only a week on the job, he said, ‘I found my home.’ I couldn’t have gotten a bigger compliment.”
Starting with Camelot while in high school, Jacob Cibrian has worked in a variety of capacities for the company for just under 10 years, much of that time alongside brothers Junior, David, and Carlos. Though Jacob and his brothers have at various times had to leave Camelot for a short period, they have always returned to the moving company.
As to why he has always returned, Jacob explained, “Billy and Carolyn will help you if they can—and they treat us really well.”
Employee Devon Zemp, who has worked with the Kornfelds for about eight years, finds it rewarding to work alongside the mastermind of the business. “Seeing Billy’s dedication
and passion has kept me here,” he said.
Through his work with local and national charities, Kornfeld’s focus on family has benefited many in the local community as well as communities across the nation.
Camelot has donated moving and storage services to the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley since 1991. It has similarly has supported the local Domestic Violence Center since 2000. In 2005, when Hurricanes Katrina and Rita left thousands homeless throughout the South, Camelot twice sent a truck and a team to deliver needed supplies.
“Some people need help, others are able to help. We feel it’s our responsibility to use our resources to help whenever we can,” Kornfeld said.
Camelot’s large family of happy clients, devoted employees, and well-served communities give testimony that the company, its owners, and its employees sincerely live by those words.
