Look into any medicine cabinet and you’re likely to find a smorgasbord of medication. Problem is, much of it is often expired or unneeded, thus turning these health supplements into health hazards.
In order to address this vital public safety issue, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station is participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s 2nd National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. On April 30, Santa Clarita residents are encouraged to drop off their unwanted medication in a marked disposal bin at the Sheriff’s station at 23740 Magic Mountain Parkway.

National Take Back Day was launched to increase awareness of the issue. The disposal bins are always open in front of the station, regardless of the day.
The service is completely free and anonymous.
According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration, more than seven million Americans currently abuse prescription drugs.
This figure includes a large portion of teenagers, who often obtain the prescription drugs from the family medicine cabinet.
The inaugural National Take Back Day was a big success, netting 42,000 pounds of prescription drugs at nearly 4,100 sites nationwide.
