The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team upset second-seeded San Bernardino Valley College, 69-67, in the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional.
Dominique Turner scored the winning basket with four seconds left in the game. She nearly had a triple double in the game with 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists.
COC, the seventh-seeded team in the Southern California Regional, moves on the semifinals. The Cougars play Mt. San Antonio College on Saturday night.
The Master’s College women’s basketball team lost to California Baptist, 69-46, in the first round of the Golden State Athletic Conference Tournament in Riverside.
Two of The Master’s College top players were limited in action against Cal Baptist. Erica Inge, the team’s leading scorer, was fighting flu-like symptoms all day. She played 36 minutes, but scored only four points.
Theresa Brown, the team’s leading rebounder and starting center, did not play at all.
Lena Rivera had one of her best games for The Master’s College. She scored 14 points and had 15 rebounds in the loss.
The Master’s College men’s basketball team begins play in the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament tonight against Concordia in Irvine.
The Master’s College baseball team beat Vanguard, 7-2, and won their fifth game in a row. JT Adams was 3-for-4 with a home run and drove in three runs.

The Golden Valley softball team is off to a good start. The Grizzlies won their season opener, 8-1, over LA Baptist.
Alyssa Rocha went 3-for-4 with two home runs and a triple. She drove in five runs for Golden Valley.
Branndi Melero also homered for Golden Valley. She scored two runs and drove in two runs.
The Hart boys golf team beat San Marcos by six strokes in a non-league match at Valencia Country Club. Robbie Witkowski led Hart with an 8-over par 80. Tim Waschak was 9-over par at 81.
The Saugus boys tennis team beat Lancaster, 17-1, in a non-league match.
All three single players for Saugus swept their matches. Spencer Parks, Sagie Mofsowitz and Tristin Thierry did not lose a game against their opponents.
The Hart boys tennis team takes on Quartz Hill today.
In boys volleyball, Saugus is home against Chaminade today. Hart travels to Camarillo.
In high school track and field, Golden Valley is on the road against Glendale and Hart is home for a meet against Burroughs.
The Dodgers lost to the Kansas City Royals, 11-5, in Cactus League play. Juan Castro hit a three-run home run and James Loney was 2-for-2 for the Dodgers.
Off the field, the Dodgers and pitcher Clayton Kershaw agreed to a one-year contract extension. He will receive $500,000 in 2011, making him one of the lowest-paid opening day starters in the major leagues. Kershaw was 13-10 with a 2.91 ERA, his best season as a Dodger so far.
The Kings are home for a game against the Phoenix Coyotes tonight. The Kings are coming off a 7-4 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
