Santa Clarita Artists’ Association recently inducted a new president, Zony Gordon, to lead members through another season of adventures in art, comradeship, and in pursuit of making visual art visible in Santa Clarita.
"I am very pleased to turn over the presidency to Zony Gordon, who has been serving as an active Vice President throughout the year. With her organizational and communication skills, she has done a superb job as our Art Classic Executive Chair. Zony has been my right arm and I will continue to support her presidency," said outgoing president Olga Kaczmar.
Gordon won silver in watercolor in SCAA's 21st Art Classic. She has been studying with master watercolorist, Pong Apinyavat, for a number of years. An Impressionist artist, she continues to explore varied subjects in art, primarily in watercolor and oil.
"I have been fascinated with art since childhood but never pursued it with vigor until now," said Gordon. As a Mass Communications major, she took art classes and began a career in advertising, working with creative directors for ad layouts and campaigns in Manila and in Los Angeles while pursuing a Project Management Certification Program at UC Irvine.
In 2007, Gordon resigned her job at Sprint Corp. in Marketing and Project Management to pursue real estate and painting. Gordon is an annual judge in various school competitions including the PTA Reflections program and teaches art classes for children at the SCV Community Center as well as City of Santa Clarita summer art classes K-12 at the SCV Sports Complex. She was a past president for the Junior Chamber of Commerce in Daly City and also of the Fil-Am Association of Santa Clarita Valley. She is a licensed realtor at Keller Williams.
Santa Clarita Artists' Association monthly meetings have moved to Barnes and Noble meeting room, Valencia Boulevard and Magic Mountain Parkway, generally the third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
