The West Ranch girls basketball team ran their record to 6-0 with a 54-44 win over Chaminade in the Gold Coast Tournament at Rio Mesa High School.
Michele Arima scored 13 points and led three West Ranch girls who scored in double figures. Alexus Bryant had 11 points and Whitney Branham scored 10 for West Ranch.
Next up for West Ranch is Channel Islands in the Gold Coast Tournament tonight.
The Saugus girls beat host Rio Mesa, 58-43, in the Gold Coast Tournament. Crystal Makous scored 15 points for Saugus.
The Trinity Classical Academy boys basketball team beat First Lutheran, 58-53, in the Omega League opener. James Brooks led Trinity with 29 points, 12 rebounds and nine blocks.
The West Ranch, Valencia and Canyon boys basketball teams are in action tonight in the Canyon Classic tournament. West Ranch plays Valencia at 6 tonight at Canyon High School. Canyon takes on Highland at 7:30.
The Golden Valley girls soccer team beat Lancaster, 2-1, and won for the first time this season. The game-winner came in the 36th minute from Joana Lagunas on a free kick.
Samantha Jennings gave Golden Valley a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 11th minute.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer team beat Trinity Classical Academy, 6-0. Colette Blake scored two first-half goals for Santa Clarita Christian. Trinity is making its varsity debut in girls soccer and has played only two games.
The West Ranch boys soccer team beat Littlerock, 4-1, behind two second-half goals from Jacob Jordan.
The Canyon boys soccer team got a goal and an assist from Mohammed Roknipour in a 2-1 win over Burbank. AJ Rohcow scored the other goal for Canyon.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys soccer team beat Vasquez, 5-3. Daniel Stratton scored two goals and Chris Marquez scored a goal and had two assists for Santa Clarita Christian.
The Lancaster JetHawks baseball team has a new manager. Tom Spencer will lead the Houston Astros Single-A baseball team in the 2011 season.
Spencer was the manager of the St. Louis Cardinals Single-A ball club in Palm Beach in 2009. From 2003-2008, Spencer was the Cardinals base running and outfield instructor.
The Kings all of a sudden have a three-game winning streak. Anze Kopitar scored in the third period and the Kings beat the visiting Calgary Flames, 2-1.
Kyle Clifford scored his first NHL goal in the first period for the Kings, who have won three games in a row.
The next game for the Kings is at Staples Center against the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night.
