Advanced Bionics Announces Voluntary Recall Of Hearing Implant [1]
Advanced Bionics, the Valencia-based company specializing in advanced hearing systems, is recalling its HiRes 90K cochlear implant device after two instances of recipients complaining of overly loud sounds or shocking senstations.
The move is voluntary, and the company has already informed the Food and Drug Administration.

Advanced Bionics, currently owned by the Swiss hearing aid manufacturer Sonova Holding AG, is evaluating the source of the problem.
Cochlear implants are different from hearing aids, which amplify sound, in that they bypass the damaged inner ear and send sound directly to the brain.
