The Valencia football team ran its Foothill League record to 4-0 with a 49-17 win over Golden Valley.
Steven Manfro had another big game, scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 143 yards. Valencia quarterback Alex Bishop threw four touchdown passes and was 9-of-13 for 238 yards.
Valencia receiver Tedric Thompson caught two of those touchdown passes.
Golden Valley receiver Isa Bey caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Reid Soliman. Bey caught six passes for 86 yards.
The Canyon football team has a secure hold on second-place in the Foothill League standings. After beating Hart, 36-29, Canyon is 3-1 in league play.
Canyon running back Darius Rudolph scored two touchdowns, one on a 98-yard kickoff return in the fourth quarter, and gained 172 yards on 15 carries.
Canyon receiver TJ Yonkers caught six passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns.
Hart was up, 29-15, in the second half, but Canyon scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory. Rudolph scored on an 80-yard run to tie the score, 29-29. Quarterback Jonathan Jerozal scored on a keeper to put his team up 36-29 in the fourth quarter.
Hart running back Dylan Edwards rushed for 146 yards and had two catches for 46 yards and a touchdown.
The Saugus playoffs hopes were all but dashed with a 21-20 loss to West Ranch. Now West Ranch looks like the favorite to finish in third place in league and head to playoffs.
West Ranch running back Trevin Manuel gave his team a one-point lead, 21-20, in the third quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run. West Ranch running backs Andres Gutierrez and Quaid Willis combined for 120 yards on 30 carries.
West Ranch quarterback Connor Eichten was taken out of the game in the first quarter after getting hit in the chin. He was taken to the hospital and received stitches.
Saugus running Tyler Watt had another big game on the ground. He gained 166 yards on 24 carries and scored three touchdowns.
West Ranch controls its own destiny. A win over Hart next week will give West Ranch a 3-2 league record. Saugus would need to beat Valencia in the season finale to finish league play with a 3-2 record.
In all likelihood, Valencia will win the Foothill League championship, with Canyon in second and West Ranch in third.
The Santa Clarita Christian football team beat Windward, 58-50, behind a school record 344 rushing yards from running back Daniel Green.
Green scored the game-winning touchdown on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter. He also threw a 41-yard touchdown pass to Ethan Vernon.
The Trinity Classical Academy football team tied Hillcrest Christian and won the Omega League championship.
Trinity finished its first season in the Omega League with an undefeated. The 3-0-1 league record put Trinity a half-game ahead of Westmark in the final league standings.
Trinity quarterback Dakota Prochnow scored three rushing touchdowns and led his team from a 16-0 deficit.
Trinity will enter the CIF Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs as the No. 1 seed from the Omega League.
In college football, the College of the Canyons beat Ventura College, 37-24. COC linebacker Justin Stevens returned an interception for a touchdown in the second half. The touchdown gave COC a 13-point lead.
In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Portland Trail Blazers, 121-96, behind a triple-double from Pau Gasol. He scored 20 points, pulled down 14 rebounds and had 10 assists. Lamar Odom had 21 points and 12 rebounds. Seven Lakers, including Kobe Bryant, scored in double figures.
The Lakers ran their record to 7-0 to start the season. They host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday night at Staples Center.
