The League of California Cities awarded the City of Santa Clarita the prestigious Helen Putnam award of excellence for its Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program at the League of California Cities’ Annual Conference September 15-17 in San Diego.

At the national City-County Communications and Marketing Association’s (3CMA) Annual Conference September 8-10, the City of Santa Clarita took home five “Savvy” awards in recognition of its work over the last year in strategic marketing and compelling communications efforts.
The City of Santa Clarita’s annual Cowboy Festival was recognized with three prestigious awards from the International Festivals & Events Association (IFEA) during their Pinnacle Awards Ceremony last week.
The Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program was selected in the category of housing programs and innovations for the Helen Putnam awards program.
“The City of Santa Clarita is very honored to have been chosen as one of the Helen Putnam award recipients this year. Our Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program has been successful and we are thrilled to share it with other California cities.” said Mayor Laurene Weste.
The Helen Putnam awards program holds a long tradition with all California cities and the League as being a coveted and premier award. This is the City’s fifth time winning this award which recognizes excellence in improving the quality of life in a community.
Santa Clarita’s Extreme Neighborhood Makeover program is a grass-roots effort to clean up individual neighborhoods using a community partnership approach. The program includes a kick-off block party with city and community leaders, volunteers from nonprofit and church groups for individual homeowners with clean up and beautification efforts, and assistance from the City’s many departments including arborists, streets, graffiti abatement and the Sheriff’s department. At the 3CMA Annual Conference, the City was awarded in these categories: 1st place in Printed Publications—Guides (Santa Clarita Tourism Guidebook), 1st place Magazines and Catalogs (Seasons Magazine), 2nd place in Digital Interactive—Electronic Publications (City Briefs and the City’s online blog), 2nd place for Digital Media Graphic Design (for Mayor Dude, the 2009 campaign to help educate teens about local government), and 2nd place for Printed Publications—Reports (Economic Development Annual Report).
3CMA is the leading organization for local governments that are using innovative ways of communicating with their citizens. The Savvy Awards competition recognizes outstanding local government achievements in communications, public-sector marketing and citizen-government relationships.

The Cowboy Festival received a Gold Award for Best Promotional Brochure, a Silver Award for Best Event Website and a Bronze Award for Best Commemorative Poster.

Entries in every budget category are recognized as the best in the business while raising the standards and quality of media promotions and events across the board. The professional competition draws entries from among the world’s top festivals and events.
