Hundreds of film makers and television producers have passed through our valley to take advantage of our beautiful scenery to use in their productions. Santa Clarita has been used as Hollywood’s back lot since the earliest days of cinema.
It is such a common production site that early producers have been known to call the area around Newhall, “Newhallywood.” Almost any genre of television or movie productions has been filmed in our valley and the tradition lives on with new and current productions filming locally.
E.J. Stephens of the Santa Clarita Historical Society is now teaching a class called “Newhallywood: The History of Film/TV in SCV” to educate our valley’s citizens on all the interesting and historical productions that have taken place here in our valley.
