The West Ranch boys golf team won the first Foothill League match of the year by 25 strokes, but it was Valencia's Joanthan Chang who posted the low round of the day at Valencia Country Club.
Chang shot an even-par 72 for Valencia, who finished second. West Ranch shot 401 as a team, led by C.J. Espino's 3-over par 75. Valencia was second with a team score of 426, followed by Saugus in third with a 431.
In high school volleyball, the Hart boys won a thriller in five games against Alemany. Down 2-1 after three games, Hart won the final two games and won the match.
J.J. Mosolf led Hart with 13 kills and 17 assists. Teammates Andrew Urbestine added 11 kills and Austin Gage had 17 assists.
The Golden Valley boys volleyball team swept Rio Mesa in three games. Ryan Kessler had 12 kills and Alex Schlossman had 11 for Golden Valley.
In high school tennis, the Hart boys beat Saugus, 10-8, behind a doubles sweep by Austin Morgan and Kevin Tanner.
Valencia crushed West Ranch, 16-2, behind singles sweeps by Tyler Gottshall, Ben Inchalik and J.R. Macalutas.
In high school swimming, the Valencia and Canyon teams split their Foothill League opening dual meet. The Valencia boys won, 94.5-75.5, over Canyon. But the Canyon girls posted a 91.5-78.5 win over Valencia.
The College of the Canyons baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and beat Bakersfield College, 5-4.
Jeremy Weber hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the ninth. Sean Sweeney hit a one-out, solo home run to win the game.
Weber finished with three RBIs and Nico Moreno was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.
The College of the Canyons softball team posted a pair of shutouts against Glendale College. COC won the first game, 4-0, and the second, 5-0. Ashley Imperial pitched a one-hitter and Alexis Tellez capped a four-run sixth inning with a two-run single in the first game.
Sarah Biggs pitched a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts in the second game.
The Clippers lost to the Dallas Mavericks, 106-96, despite a monster game from Drew Gooden. He scored 26 points and had 20 rebounds, but the Clippers lost for the second time in a row and for the 10th time in its last 11 games.
Jason Kidd led the way for the Mavericks with season-high 26 points and 12 assists.
The Kings are in Denver for a game against the Colorado Avalanche tonight. The two teams met on Monday, with the Kings winnings, 4-3, in overtime at Staples Center. Pregame starts at 5:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
